Alongside directing this film, I produced a huge majority of the concept art and book covers and interior art for children’s books.
This came with crafting a vile, dilapidated cell, the objects that occupy the space, and the man himself, ‘Dante’. I had a very clear idea of what everything looked like, working from someone else’s story, I understood how I saw these characters and spaces, rather than building these things from scratch.
The interesting thing about designing ‘Dante’, was building his physicality through drawing, and his soul really, which was very helpful when working with actor Joseph Anthony Allen to construct this childish, but jaded, and animalistic man.
